WHERE DO I LIVE ?

WHO AM I ?

I am the second largest animal in the world, right after the blue whale! I can grow up to 20 meters long and weigh up to 70 tons. My body is long and slim, with a dark grey back and a white belly. One fun fact about me? My lower jaw is white… but only on the right side!
My head is shaped like a V, and I have long grooves under my throat that help me gulp up to 25,000 liters of water in one go! I then filter this water with my baleen plates to catch krill and tiny fish. I can eat up to 2 tons of food per day!
I live in oceans all over the world, mostly far from the coast in deep waters. I migrate with the seasons: I feed in cold northern waters during spring and summer, and head to warmer seas in autumn and winter to mate and give birth. Baby fin whales are already over 6 meters long at birth!
I usually swim in small groups, and I’m super fast — I can reach speeds of nearly 40 km/h! My only natural predators are orcas, but my biggest threat is humans. Many fin whales are killed every year by collisions with fast-moving ships, especially young whales or mothers resting with their calves.
