Squirrel

Hop, hop, hop! You can barely catch a glimpse of me bounding, before I disappear up a tree! Hyperactive little bundle of red fur, I live in forests and hide in trees. I feed on walnuts, hazelnuts, seeds, buds, mushrooms and even insects and bird eggs. I am famous for hiding supplies everywhere to keep until winter, when food becomes scarce. However I have not the best memory and often forget where they are!

One can find me easily across Europe but I am starting to suffer from the competition with another species: the grey squirrel. They are called an “invasive species”, as they are occupying more and more of my habitat, pushing me out. I also suffer from increasing road traffic, so pay attention when driving, I can cross at any time!
