Me and giant pandas, must be pretty similar, right? I mean, we 'are both "pandas", we both eat bamboo, we even share habitat, but I am not related to the giant panda. I look more like raccoons, I am recognizable thanks to my red fur coat, my small ears and my very long fluffy tail.
I am a very good climber, I live in the bamboo forest in the Eastern Himalayas, including of Nepal, China, India, Bhutan and Myanmar. Despite my small size, I can eat about 3kg of leaves and bamboo shoots each day, roughly 20 to 30 percent of my body weight.
Intensive poaching and natural habitat destruction remain current threats to me. In 2015, my’ status dropped from “vulnerable” to “endangered” on the International Union for the Conservation of Nature’s Red List of Threatened Species.
